Athens Man Reports Gun Threat During Truck Sale

The information in this story comes from the ACC Police Department. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction.

An Athens man was allegedly threatened by a man with a gun Wednesday at Auto Zone while trying to sell his truck, according to an report.

Police arrived at Auto Zone on Barnett Shoals Road at about 6:30 p.m. after receiving a hit-and-run complaint. The complainant told police that he had been at Auto Zone since noon with a broken-down truck, with the intention of selling the truck to a friend.

After the friend agreed to buy the truck, the complainant told police that he tried to make the friend feel guilty for no paying more than $500. The person he was meeting then became angry and jumped out of his truck with a gun, which the complainant described as a "flat, gray 1911 style pistol." When his friend pulled out the gun, the man jumped into his truck and ran into the car behind him.

The complainant described his friend as a white man who "looks like a hippie," about 6-feet-2-inches, with long gray and brown hair. He also told police he didn't know exactly where the man lived or what his phone number was.

During the conversation, officers were given the impression that the complainant was under the influence of some sort of drugs, due to his disjointed and rambling story. A witness told police that he saw the two men arguing, but never saw a gun.
