Athens Parapro Dismissed After Taping Incident
Investigation into alleged taping of kindergartener's mouth results in termination..

officials said Monday a teacher’s aide has been fired after she shut with clear packaging tape last week.
“This type of action is both unacceptable and inexcusable,” said Clarke County School District spokesperson Anisa Sullivan Jimenez. “Any issues similar to this will not be tolerated.”
Jimenez didn’t identify the paraprofessional, who worked with a kindergarten teacher at , but she did say this was the parapro’s first year at the school. The child who was taped is a six-year-old girl, whose mother describes her as “energetic.”

The incident occurred inside the kindergarten classroom, Jimenez said, but she didn’t know the exact circumstances of the alleged taping or whether the little girl was in school Monday.
An investigation began immediately. If someone is found to have violated school district policy, he or she is subject to various disciplinary actions, including dismissal, Jimenez said. In this case, dismissal was the chosen course of action.

No legal action has been taken because of the alleged incident, Jimenez said.
