Athens Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit By Van

The pedestrian has been identified as a 60-year-old man.

ATHENS, GA — A pedestrian who was hit by a van days ago in the 2200 block of West Broad Street died Monday, according to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department Tuesday.

Scott Roy Paton, 60, of Athens, was hit by a 2008 Honda Odyssey that was traveling west around 9:15 p.m. Friday, police said. Paton was crossing the street at the time, and police said he did not yield to the Odyssey and was not crossing at an intersection or at a crosswalk.

The driver of the van remained on the scene, police said.

Paton died from injuries sustained from the crash, police said.

"ACCPD reminds citizens to use crosswalks when crossing streets, especially when visibility is limited at night," police said in a news release.

This is the second fatal crash this year in Athens-Clarke County.
