Athens Resident and Runner Jarryd Wallace Sets World Record
Lyon, France, is hosting the International Paralympic Committee Athletics World Championships.

Athens resident Jarryd Wallace made his community proud as he set a world record at theΒ IPC Athletics World ChampionshipsΒ Β Lyon, FranceΒ this week.
Wallace broke his ownΒ world record time set on SaturdayΒ byΒ winning the finals of the 200-meter T44-division in 22.08 seconds on Sunday,Β Euronews reports.Β

The T44 division consisted of athletes that have single-limb below-the-knee amputations.
In 2010, Wallace had a voluntary amputation of his right leg after suffering from compartment syndrome, which causes muscle and nerve problems. He became a member of the U.S. Paralympic Track and Field Team shortly after his operation andΒ competed at the Paralympic Games in London.Β
