Athens Resident and Runner Jarryd Wallace Sets World Record

Athens resident Jarryd Wallace made his community proud as he set a world record at the IPC Athletics World Championships  Lyon, France this week.

Wallace broke his own world record time set on Saturday by winning the finals of the 200-meter T44-division in 22.08 seconds on Sunday, Euronews reports. 

The T44 division consisted of athletes that have single-limb below-the-knee amputations.

In 2010, Wallace had a voluntary amputation of his right leg after suffering from compartment syndrome, which causes muscle and nerve problems. He became a member of the U.S. Paralympic Track and Field Team shortly after his operation and competed at the Paralympic Games in London.
