Athens Technical College Police Conduct Active Shooter Training
The training is in response to active shooter incidents on the Walton Campus.
Athens Technical College Police Department conducted training in collaboration with Monroe Police Department in response to active shooter incidents on the Walton Campus.
Sgt. Matt Dembowski, Monroe Police Training Unit and Lt. John Webster with Walton County Fire & Rescue instructed Officers in current operational doctrines related to neutralizing active shooter threats and performing combat first aid. Stop the Bleed training prepares Officers to apply tourniquets with one hand and perform other life saving techniques to stop blood loss. Training in response to high risk incidents is conducted annually to ensure that Officers are fully prepared to provide professional law enforcement services for both the main and each satellite campus.

Athens Technical College Police Department is committed to ensuring a safe learning environment for the entire college community. Officers coordinate response with local law enforcement agencies in the jurisdiction of each campus as well as other emergency first responders in the Fire and Medical services. Agencies additionally focus on inter-operable communications to facilitate rapid response in circumstances which are tense, uncertain and rapidly evolving.
