Within each community there are those who give of themselves to others in need. Volunteers offer a genuine service from the heart, becoming the backbone of many nonprofits. Finding the right fit between volunteers and organizations is not always easy.
On September 18, 2013, HandsOn Northeast Georgia, and UGA Center for Leadership and Service are hosting the annual Athens Volunteer Fair in the Grand Hall of the University of Georgia Tate Center. Students and community members are invited to visit the fair from 11:30am to 5:30pm. Dozens of organizations will be present to share information about their programs and their volunteer needs.

The point of the fair is to be able to interact with representatives from all agencies and ask questions in person. Over 50 nonprofit agencies will be at the fair, which will serve as a central hub for individuals who want to volunteer, but are unsure of where to find opportunities that are right for them.

Under the circumstance of economy contraction, volunteering is doubtlessly an important signal to demonstrate your proactive incentive to your potential employers that you're actively increasing your skill set and gaining experience. Consequently, the volunteer fair is not only a chance for people to learn about the community and what agencies are doing to combat issues in the area, but also how to deliver your assistance to those urgent areas.
Please join us to find ways to use your talents, help others, and get involved in the Athens community! There will be volunteer opportunities represented for people of all ages and accommodations will be made for free parking at the Tate Student Center parking garage.
