Athens, Georgia: BikeAthens is partnering with the Twilight Foundation to host turn two of the Twilight Criterium Saturday April 25, 2015, from 12:00 noon until 10:30 PM. Turn two is at the corner of Hancock and Jackson Street. This VIP section’s tickets are available for $10 ($20 with T-shirt) for members and $15 for non-members. Tickets are available online at www.bikeathens.com. Pulled pork BBQ will be sold by Dawg Gone Good BBQ as well as cold beer, soda and Waterman water for corner patrons.

This is the second time BikeAthens has been a host at the Twilight Criterium and it is a great opportunity to highlight the mission of BikeAthens to promote cycling and other transit solutions to transportation needs in Athens through education, advocacy, and community service. In addition BikeAthens will be raising funds primarily through ticket and drink sales in support of the October 24th BikeAthens Ride That Owns Itself in dedication to the Athens landmark.

β€œWe could not be more excited to be back at Twilight,” says BikeAthens executive director Tyler Dewey. β€œWhile we focus on bikes as transportation, it is thrilling to see every style of bicycle take over downtown for the weekend. It’s an honor to share our passion for active transportation at the premier bike event of the year.”

The Cheers & Gears fundraiser is $50 for patrons and catered by Porterhouse Grill and Creature Comforts Brewery will also be a meet-n-greet with top cyclists as well as a chance to bid on the recycled bicycle art trophy exhibit. These trophies were assembled by ATHICA-based artists using bicycle parts from the Bike Athens Bicycle Recycling Program. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward the construction of the 83rd Habitat for Humanity House.

BikeAthens supports its mission in the community through programs including traffic safety courses with the municipal court system, free light and helmet giveaways for kids and the work of the Bike Recycling Program (BRP) hosted in the Chase Park Warehouse at 149 Tracy Street. Volunteers can learn basic bicycle maintenance skills during shop hours Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 to 8:30 PM and Sundays 2:00 to 4:30 PM. A new Tuesday morning session is now open 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM as well as first Tuesdays Women’s Bike Repair Classes from 7:00 – 8:30 PM by reservation only.

BikeAthens is a registered 501c3 non-profit organization and offers membership as well as donation options through the website www.bikeathens.com. You can join or donate Saturday April 25th at Twilight turn two, or just enjoy the VIP viewing area, beer and food. All proceeds directly support creating safe, reliable and accessible complete streets in Athens-Clarke County.
