BOOK REVIEW: Bryan M. Powell's Stranger Series

Author Bryan M. Powell captivates readers with his protagonist, Chase Newton, in the first installment of the Stranger series – Stranger in the Pulpit.  Chase is not a newbie to being a thorough investigative reporter.  His hopes for a more sedate way of life in the tranquil community of Beaumont, Colorado are dashed with the sudden growth of the Community First Church and the group known as The Order.  Stranger in the Pulpit will find Chase caught in an international conspiracy centered around the New Age church and facing his own crisis of faith.

Stranger in the White House, Powell’s second installment, takes Chase to the nation’s capital. Still reeling from his impressive investigative work in Beaumont, he is now working for the New York Times as their Washington correspondent, and again plagued by The Order.  But this time, The Order has attempted the double assassination of the president and vice- president.  It is a phone call from the ‘real’ vice-president that sets Chase on the pathway to prove that there is a Stranger in the White House leading the free-world and posing as the President.

A Stranger among Us, released this summer, is the final installment of the series. The Order’s latest commander has taken his place as leader. In a Revelations setting, his vision is to join the former kingdoms of the world to fight against the kingdom of God.  Chase’s Octavian Granddaughter, Emma Newton, and her friends will find themselves at odds with The Order.  A Stranger among Us lives up to its predecessors' legacy of being action-packed, having readers holding their breaths and their imaginations captured in this futuristic conclusion of the Stranger.
