I'm new to Athens, GA. It is a lovely town and so far I like it a lot and want to stay. Unfortunately, I am having a heck of a time finding a job. I know that the jobless rate in Athens has just dipped, and I'm very glad of that and hope that others are finding jobs. There are still millions and millions of people out of work. Some people are outright unemployed and some are underemployed.
In looking for work myself I have gone through a temp. agency, the Goodwill Career Center, have asked anyone I've run into, have friends looking, and so far submitted 21 resumes. I am applying for all types of available jobs, and I am sure so are others. I am not being that particular in the type of work I am willing to do either. I have applied for everything from office work, food service, child care and others.

Every day that passes without a job offer is not very encouraging. I am a self starter, a hard worker, trusthworthy and kind, and if someone would just give me an opportunity to prove myself, I am sure they will be very happy. I have worked for others and worked for myself. I have always been employed up to this point in my adult life.
I want to contribute to the community here by being productive. I'd like to get into some classes involving art and/or music and writing. I also like to cook. I'm not sure what other avenues to explore here but am going to continue to work at finding work.
