Storytelling on Steroids: WRITE CLUB Athens has arrived
Take whatever view you have in your head about traditional storytelling and throw it out the window because WRITE CLUB will forever change how you view literary events.
Birthed in Chicago, the home of storytelling, WRITE CLUB is a truly unique offering in the literary arts. Referred to as, "Debate Club for Sailors," WRITE CLUB showcases six local writers/performers, matched up in pairs and battling head to head on topics to win money for their favorite charity. Currently there are chapters in Chicago, Atlanta and San Fransisco with another chapter in Los Angeles debuting this week along with Athens.
The premise is simple:

7 MINUTES APIECE.
AUDIENCE PICKS A WINNER.
This Monday, at Flicker Bar downtown, come and watch the inaugrual bout. Doors open at 8:00, show starts at 9:00 and will last about an hour.
Athens' own indie bookseller, Janet Geddis goes against Atlanta columnist, playwrite and actor Topher Payne. Janet will be covering SKILL versus Topher's LUCK.
Local writer Krista Westervelt will be taking on Atlanta's Randy Osborne, curator of what was once Atlanta's MOTH and is now run as Carapace. Krista will be taking on WIRED and Randy is taking on TIRED.
Atlanta's WRITE CLUB Viceroy and Emcee, screenwriter Nick Tecosky will be battling local social media snark shark, Jami Howard with BRAINS vs. BRAWN.
The night feels more like a boxing match and less like your typical reading series with high-energy audience participation, screaming and stomping and cheering. A blue ribbon judge's panel will be chosen from selected audience members to help determine a winner when the audience roaring is too close to call. The iconic Time Timer will also be there, ready to blast anyone who goes over their seven minute limit.
All proceeds collected at the door will be split between the winning combatants and donations will be made to the winner's favorite charities.
Suggested donation is $5-10-whatever-you-can at the door.
