Support a Great Cause.... Seriously!

A dear friend and a lovely woman loves animals almost as much as family. She's now in a position where her big heart needs some help. We can do this!

Oby’s Army:  100 for $100

We live in a terribly confusing and difficult world.  There is every reason for each of us to crawl inside our family or friends and refuse the gnawing urgency that enters our minds every day.

Who will feed the hungry? Who will heal the sick, and who will stop the slaughter on our highways?  If you are like me, the average Americans who take the time and spend their resources to improve the world we live in are a step above the modest efforts I put forward maintaining my own status quo.

Some people are better than me. And some are better than you, too. One of Athens’ most classic and beloved daughters is better than most of us.

Since she was a child, Oby Wellman Dupree has loved animals. And more importantly, she has protected them.  Now, as a sturdy rock in the tower that we call Athens, Oby needs help fulfilling her calling.  After years of raising children and grandchildren and dogs, horses and similar beasts, she finds herself with more animals than she imagined.

These were not animals that Oby has bought or adopted from shelters, beating other big hearts to the cute and easily placed. No, Oby’s world is filled with the outcasts and the unloved. Well, by golly, they are loved now.

Friends of Oby have organized a small group we call ‘100 for $100.’  Each of us is committed to give $100 before April 15 to help Oby build a war chest to feed and care for the menagerie she has adopted. Vet bills for large animals can
be shocking. And good food and shelter for even the smallest loved ones add up. The money we raise will not go to any purpose but the care of the animals.

And guess what, there is room to join the ‘100’.  Most of us have pets, or if we don’t, we did. Personally, I cannot imagine my two dogs without a loving home.  But Oby, by luck (!), serendipity or more often the pleading cries of friends and strangers, has a full barn today.  Oby knows her limits, though she will not talk about it. She does not plan on taking in additional animals she cannot afford to treat right. But the help of 100 for $100 will go far to support an ark full and let the Dupree’s sleep better at night, too.

This is a serious request. If Oby can manage it and the fire spreads, there will be opportunities to save more and more of God’s precious creatures. But first, we need to fill the 100. Commit today. Any amount is welcome and actual amounts of donations will be private. Thanks for listening.
