Take Control Of your Health - Blood 101

Blood testing 101 or as I like to call it "the A B C's of blood work.

We will go over 5 of the most basic tests everyone needs.

1) CBC or the Complete Blood Count.  This test tells you how well your bone marrow is producing your blood.  It helps diagnose anemia, infection and other blood disorders. See it at  http://labtestselect.com/cbc-differentialplatelet.

2) CMP or Chemistry Panel.  This is a group of 14 different test that tells, amougst others, how your liver and kidneys are functioning.  This group of tests tells you about the chemistry in your blood and how your body is using sugar and electrolytes.  See it at  http://labtestselect.com/cmp-comprehensive-metabolic-panel

3) A1C or Sugar Test.  This test tells you how your body is breaking down glucose ( sugars).  This tests helps diagonose Diabetes.  See it at http://labtestselect.com/a1c-hemoglobin

4) Cholesterol or Lipid Panel.  This group of tests tells you how much fat is in your blood.  This is helpful in determining your risk of heart trouble.  This tells you if you have been eating too much sausage and BBQ.  See it at http://labtestselect.com/cholesterol-lipid-panel-hdl-ratio

5) TSH or Thyroid.  This test evaluates the funtion of your thyroid.  This will help detemine the reason for fatigue, weight change, dry skin, or unusual chills or warm flashes.  See it at  http://labtestselect.com/tsh
