Businesses, Nonprofits, Community Leaders Help Women Gain Access to Careers

To celebrate Labor Day a group of local nonprofits, businesses and community leaders will help four women gain entrance into long-term careers.

Athens Financial University, AFU, a pilot program organized by the Athens Area Emergency Food Bank connects women with mentors in their desired field of work in addition to providing them clothing, food, job assistance and financial education resources.
“These women have sound pathways to improve their future and strengthen the community,” says Kim Ramos, Executive Director of the Athens Area Emergency Food Bank. “Throughout the year, they will work with their mentors to improve their resumes, volunteer in their area of interest and network with other leading professionals.”

Other organizations supporting AFU include On Cloud 9 Boutique, Plato’s Closet and Urban Sanctuary.
Each woman will also be presented with certificates of recognition from Athens-Clarke County Mayor Nancy Denson and U.S. Congressman Paul Broun.
