Cedar Shoals Fire 'Intentionally Set'; Suspect Detained
A fire at Cedar Shoals High School Wednesday began after a toilet paper dispenser was ignited, according to the local fire department.
ATHENS, GA — Someone purposely started a small fire Wednesday morning at Cedar Shoals High School, where students were safely evacuated, according to the Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services.
The fire occurred sometime around 9:15 a.m. in a school bathroom. Fire officials said Athens-Clarke County Police officers have detained a suspect for questioning.
When crews arrived, they were alerted by staff that black water was seen coming into the hallway. Heavy smoke conditions affected visibility, according to the fire department.

The fire activated a sprinkler system, which helped extinguish the fire, according to the department. Crews finished the fire off with a water can, according to the department.
It was determined a toilet paper dispenser in a bathroom stall had been set on fire, according to the department. Fire officals said the fire was "intentionally set."

Fire officials deemed the school safe to re-enter after checking the air quality with monitors, according to the department.
No injuries were reported, fire officials said.
