Cocaine Possession, Punched in the Face, Guns Stolen in Burglary

ARREST 

An officer had contact with Roderick Burgess on Hickman Dr around 3:30 a.m. June 25. Investigation revealed he was in possession of a quantity of cocaine. Burgess, 34, was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine.

BATTERY 

A Chesterton Dr man said he and a friend were in the 200 block of W Hancock Ave around 2 p.m. June 24. They saw a person the man has had problems with in the past. He said he turned around in an attempt to avoid the subject. The subject came up from behind and punched him in the face causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect then fled on foot toward Bethel Homes. The man went to Athens Regional Medical Center for treatment of cuts to his head and hands.

BURGLARY 

A Sayemore Dr residence was burglarized between 9 a.m. and 9:50 a.m. June 24. Cash and cigarettes valued at $205 were stolen. A neighbor heard glass breaking and called police.

A Lakeside Dr residence was burglarized between 5:30 p.m. June 23 and 12:30 p.m. June 24. Clothing valued at $60 was stolen. Possible suspects were named.

Between 12 p.m. April 20 and 12 p.m. June 20 a Woodstone Dr residence was burglarized. A rifle and handgun with a total value of $900 were stolen. This was reported on June 24.

A North Caroline man reported his room at Candlewood Suites, 156 Classic Rd, was burglarized between 6:40 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. June 24. A video game console with a controller and control bar was stolen. The items were valued at $600.

The North Avenue Laundromat, 472 North Ave, was burglarized between 10 p.m. June 24 and 7 a.m. June 25. Food items valued at $20 were stolen from a vending machine. 

CRIMINAL DAMAGE 

A vehicle was damaged between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. on June 24 while parked at a Rolling Ridge Dr residence. The vehicle had been spray-painted and tires were slashed. 

THEFT BY TAKING 

An officer on patrol was flagged down by by a man around 9:15 p.m. June 24. The man said someone had taken $4,700 from his retirement account. Baker did not give a time frame for the theft but he did name a possible suspect.
