AGGRAVATED ASSAULT / BATTERY
An officer met with an Athens man at St. Mary’s Hospital. The man said a person known was visiting at his Wood Lake Drive residence. They had a disagreement and an argument ensued. The man said he was able to get the male outside and told him to leave. The male came back inside and picked up a machete that was by the door. The man said the male held the machete with his arm cocked back as if to strike him; however, the male struck a cardboard box instead. He said he opened his pocketknife and held it toward the male as a defensive measure. Another person got between them and pushed the male out the door. The man said while he was sitting in a chair, the male came in again and tackled him. A fight ensued and the man was punched in the eye. He went to the hospital for treatment. This occurred between 10:45 p.m. August 10 and 12:15 a.m. August 11.
BURGLARY
A Fourth Street residence was burglarized between 11 p.m. August 9 and 8 a.m. August 10. TVs, computer equipment, a video game box, a key board, and safe were stolen. The total value was $10,947.
A Spalding Court residence was burglarized between 9 p.m. July 6 and 3:30 p.m. August 10. Paintings valued at $4,000 were stolen. A possible suspect was named.
SEXUAL BATTERY
A 21-year old victim said she was at her Gaines School Road work place when an unknown male slapped her on the buttocks. He was described as a white male, “old,” wearing a fisherman style hat, a cut off T-shirt, and shorts. This occurred around 3:30 p.m. August 10.
