Cops Ask: 'Have Anything Illegal?" Answer: 'Yeah'

Athens-Clarke Police media report, Dec. 3

An Athens-Clarke Police officer suspected a man was impaired when he was seen having troubles parking his car on Rocksprings Street early Wednesday morning. But the officer probably didn’t expect the answer he got when he asked the man if he had anything illegal on him.

“He said, ‘Yeah,’ and raised his arms for the officer to search him,” police said in a media release. “As he did that another officer saw him drop something to the ground.”

In a balled-up piece of paper were two rocks of suspected crack cocaine, police said. A field test confirmed the substance was cocaine.

The officer was patrolling on foot when he saw the man try to park in a space that had plenty of room for the vehicle, police said. A computer check showed the man did not have a driver’s license. After that, police found the suspected drugs.

Jerry Moses, 56, was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, drug offense within 1,000 feet of Housing, and driving with a license.
