Crime Blotter--Lots of Stealing; Out-of-towners Often Victims

A man from San Ramone, CA, reported that a laptop, cell phone, and sunglasses were stolen from a Boulder Trace residence between 10pm on September 28 and 2am on September 29. The total value was $2,400.
An Amethyst Drive residence was burglarized between 10pm and 11:45pm on September 29. A video game system and computer tablets were stolen. The total value was $1,800.
Between 2am and 7:30am on September 30 a Talmadge St residence was burglarized. A TV and laptop with a total value of $1,700 were stolen.

An officer met with a man from Alto and a man from Cornelia at Lumpkin and Dougherty streets. Both were intoxicated. They said a friend had been arrested and they were walking around making phone calls, trying to assist him. As they were walking on Lumpkin, near the entrance to Bethel Midtown Village at Strong Street, they were grabbed in headlocks by two black males and dragged into an “alley.” They said they were beaten and their money was taken from them. One reported that $350 was stolen. The other reported that $500 and a cell phone valued at $500 were stolen. One many said he was choked to the point that he passed out. One suspect was described as 6’1”, thin build, with short hair, and wearing a red UGA jersey. The other suspect wore a white “wife beater” style t-shirt and camouflage pants. This occurred around 8:15pm on September 29.
A man from Douglas reported that he was “jumped on” by three black men in the area of Dougherty and Foundry streets around 3am on September 30. The man was extremely intoxicated and could not give a description of any of the suspects or their vehicle. He said they took his wallet ,which contained $200 and credit cards, and they also took his cell phone. The total value was $435.
Officers responded to the 300 block of E Broad St to meet with a man from Bowersville. The man said he had been walking through a parking lot in the 200 block of South Thomas Street around 2am on September 30. He saw two black men who were “talking trash” through the fence. He said something back to them and one of the men jumped the fence. He told the suspect he did not want any trouble but the subject beat him up and took $40 out of his pocket. EMS responded and transported the man to Athens Regional Medical Center. One suspect was wearing a red shirt with stripes and the other was wearing a dark blue shirt.

A woman reported that her 1997 Cadillac Catera was stolen from her Sycamore Drive residence between 3pm and 5pm on September 29. The vehicle is black with an Athens Auto Auction drive-out tag and is valued at $1,000. She said she may have left the keys in the vehicle.
Between 3pm on September 28 and 3am on September 30 an air mattress, personal care items, clothing, and comforter set with a total value of $1,500 were stolen from a China Street residence. A suspect was named.
Around 12:50am on September 29, officers responded to an aggravated assault on Coleridge Court. They met with a man who said he had been stabbed in the arm by four black males. A neighbor, Emmanuel Ellison of Coleridge Court, said he saw four black men run from the scene and found the man bleeding. The wounded man was transported to Athens Regional Medical Center. An investigation revealed that the man and his wife, Wanda Michele Patman, had been arguing and she stabbed her husband, then left the scene before officers arrived. Ellison, 36, was arrested and charged with False Report of a Crime. The wife, 48, was later located, arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault.
A Sunny Hills Drive residence was burglarized between 9:30am and 1:15pm on September 28. A lap op, jewelry box, and jewelry were stolen. The total value was $6,030.
A woman told police that as she arrived at her Spring Valley Road residence around 5:15pm on September 28, she heard footsteps in the back of her home. She went to her bedroom and discovered a TV and laptop had been stolen. The items were valued at $1,400. A possible suspect was named.
Between 10am and 2:35pm on September 28 a Bonnie Lane residence was burglarized. A laptop valued at $700 was stolen.
Jewelry, a camera, and cash were stolen from a Sandy Springs Drive residence. The total talue was $3,202. This burglary occurred between 6pm and 9:20pm on September 28. A suspect was named.
