Athens Cyclist Dies After Being Hit By Car: Police
Athens-Clarke County police announced the news Monday that an Athens resident has died after being hit by a car in late September.
ATHENS, GA — A cyclist has died after being hit while trying to cross the street in September, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department said Monday.
Police said they were notified Saturday that Carey Maxey, 68, of Athens, died due to injuries from the crash.
Maxey was riding east on the sidewalk of Prince Avenue around 7:45 a.m., Sept. 22, when a 2022 Hyundai Kona hit the cyclist, police said.

The Kona was also traveling east on Prince Avenue in an inside lane, police said.
The driver of the Kona was not injured, police said.

This is the ninth fatal motor vehicle crash this year in Athens-Clarke County, police said.
