Dedication Ceremony Planned for Athens Community Career Academy
Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle will give an address at a ceremony on Wednesday dedicating the new school.

State and local officials will mark the opening of the new and H.T. Edwards complex on Wednesday with a ribbon cutting ceremony and keynote addresses from Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and the grandaughter of the facility's namesake, according to a Clarke County School District press release.
The Career Academy is a collaboration of the , , , OneAthens and the local business community. The renovated facility was formerly Athens’ all-black high school and most recently had served as the school district's alternative school. It reopened for students in August as a career academy, financed in part through a $3.1 million grant from the Technical College System of Georgia and the state's Career Academy initiative, which Cagle helped spearhead in 2007.
Homer T. Edwards, for whom the H.T. Edwards Complex is named, was a former principal of the black school, known as Athens High and Industrial School. His granddaughter, who will speak at the event, is Hannah T. Edwards, an Elite Scholars Academy teacher, according to the release.
