Dr. Merrill Raikes is a retired radiologist. Although Floral Radiographic photography is a hobby for Dr. Raikes he has had several exhibitions including an exhibit at the Springfield Museum of Fine Arts in 2011. He has also placed a number of pieces in corporate settings including Anthropologie, Oppenheimer Funds and Mass Mutual Insurance Company.
Floral Radiographic or X-ray photography gives us a rare and unique look at the structure of flowers. It allows us to see a beauty and complexity not visible with the naked eye. Dr. Raikes’ beautiful compositions add another level of interest to this fascinating photographic technique. The show opens on Sunday, September 16th with a reception from 2:00-4:00 in the Visitor Center Gallery and runs through October 21st.
