Art Exhibit: Robert Rushton, photography

Robert Rushton, a mechanical engineer, is a self-taught photographer who began in the early 70’s with black-and-white photography. He put the camera down to pursue his career and then six years ago picked up a digital camera and immediately fell in love with the instant feedback of digital and the ability to take hundreds of shots of the same subject.  Through digital photography he has “developed an eye for the unusual in both the macro world of close-up photography and the broader world of travel photography.”

Throughout his travels photography has allowed Robert to find “beauty in the ordinary, whether it is a cat napping on a window sill, or a farmer’s market full of fresh vegetables.”

Back home it is the garden that he and his wife Joan have been developing over the past 20 years that has been the inspiration for much of his work. “Each month something else is in bloom. As I have worked to capture the beauty of these plants, I have been drawn into closer photographs of the flowers and their ever-present insects” through macrophotography.
