What:
The Avid Poetry Series is revving back up for the Spring 2012 season, so mark calendars, wax your ears, attend to your chakras, stretch them hammies, write a bit of New Years poetry and burn it in good faith. Do what you need to do to prepare for our first much-anticipated reading of the year, a special night of poetry given by Joshua Ware and Jeff Alessandrelli on Thursday, January 19, 2012, from 6:30pm-8:00pm.
These guys are two exceptional poets making their way through the Southeast, and of course, we had to invite them to Avid Bookshop to hear their poetry. Ware's book, Homage to Homage to Homage to Creeley (Furniture Press), serves as a pail that holds precious reality objects dropped in at unknowable landmarks along the way, in turn hauled up to a highest vantage where, summoned, Spicer's -- indeed every being's -- ghost whistles off the dust that hinders word from flight. Alessandrelli's Erik Satie Watusies His Way Into Sound (Ravenna Press) elaborates on a long stop-action wink felt all throughout his work; the reader knows this voice as well as they know what is dreamt by the yin and yang of one eye open, one eye closed, seeing song, singing saw. The poets will be bringing copies of their books and chapbooks for sale and for signing, so be sure to bring a bit of cash if you want Joshua and Jeff to leave their mark on you.
Joshua Ware lives in Lincoln, Nebraska. His first book, Homage to Homage to Homage to Creeley, won the 2010 Furniture Press Poetry Prize and was published this past summer. He is the author of three chapbooks, and his writing has appeared in many journals, such as American Letters & Commentary, Colorado Review, New American Writing, and Quarterly West.
Jeff Alessandrelli is the author of Erik Satie Watusies His Way Into Sound (Ravenna Press, 2011). Recent work appears or is forthcoming in Octopus; DIAGRAM; Forklift, Ohio; Laurel Review; Western Humanities Review; Sentence; Hotel Amerika and Quarterly West, among others. He lives in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he co-curates the latest incarnation of The Clean Part Reading Series.
