Meet the Bestselling Author: Ronda Rich

Avid Bookshop is honored to host a special reading and book signing with bestselling author Ronda Rich. Join us Thursday, September 20, 2012, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.

In a time when all the news seems bad, people want a little shot of hope. In fact, they need it. There’s a Better Day A-Comin’: How to Find the Upside During the Down Times (Running Press; Sept. 2012, $20.00), by bestselling author Ronda Rich, offers advice on how to overcome all sorts of challenges and shares dozens of positive stories from both famous and ordinary folks who endured rejection, failure, and desperation only to emerge victorious in the end.

No stranger to life’s hardships, Ronda Rich’s people hail from the Appalachian Mountains, where folks go through terrible times with steely resolve and utter determination. Rich recalls the way her mama, daddy, and family members lived their lives and passes on these lessons. In “Worry Not Over What Hard Work and Money Can Replace,” Rich remembers her father’s words of wisdom after a flood destroys her parents’ home, and in “You Can Go Anywhere in Life, Regardless of Where You Begin,” she tells the story of her cousin who was born into poverty only to later become a successful and wealthy builder.

True to her Southern storytelling roots, Rich gathers and narrates tales of courage and spunk that she has heard, witnessed, or as in the case of Paula Deen and race car champion Dale Earnhardt, learned through first-hand conversations with them. With inspiring stories from the likes of Jeff Foxworthy, “Dreams Are the Compass for Finding Your Direction in Life” and Dolly Parton, “Never Give Your First Instinct a Second Thought,” to Rich’s own pearls of wisdom, “Don’t Worry About What Other People Will Think,” and “Mountains Are Moved One Shovel of Dirt at a Time,” readers will know that there truly is a better day a-comin’!

Ronda Rich is a former award-winning sportswriter turned Southern sage, who has written two bestselling books What Southern Women Know (that Every Woman Should) and What Southern Women Know About Faith. She currently writes the weekly column “Dixie Divas,” which is syndicated to more than 50 newspapers across the Southeast. Rich has appeared on The View, The Other Half, Best Damn Sports Show, CNN, Fox News, E!, and her work has been published in Cosmopolitan, Southern Living, Redbook, and Women’s Own. She lives in Altanta, Georgia.
