1st Annual PUPPY BOWL at Ten Pins Tavern
The Athens Area Humane Society’s 1st Annual PUPPY BOWL at Ten Pins Tavern will be Sunday, January 22, 2012 from 2:00pm to 7:00pm. The event should be fun for everyone—our adoptable dogs will be there to meet potential adopters, the bands Scarlet Stitch and Southern Soul will play, and 25% of all bowling lane fees will be donated by Ten Pins Tavern, along with a percentage of special canine-themed drinks. We’ll have some other fun ways to raise money, including Red Pin Bowling and the opportunity to compete against a local bowling league. We will also be taking donations of Science Diet Adult j/d Mobility for Izzy’s special diet. The money raised at the PUPPY BOWL will go towards helping Izzy’s surgery costs and will support our growing dog foster program.
The Athens Area Humane Society has partnered with Ten Pins Tavern to raise money to help our adoptable dogs as well as a special foster dog named Izzy. Izzy is an 11-month-old bulldog/boxer mix who was abandoned by her owners when she was two months old because she needed more space and attention than they could provide for her. Her owners didn’t want to take her to animal control, for fear of what would happen to her, but they thought their only option was to let her free in their neighborhood. Because this option wasn’t a responsible one, AAHS stepped in to take Izzy as a foster dog. Her foster mom, who has been in the veterinary world for 12 years, soon realized that something was terribly wrong with Izzy’s hips as she walked around. After a quick trip to the vet office, we were told that Izzy has a severe case of hip dysplasia and needs both hips replaced—something rarely heard of in young dogs. Even with help from veterinarians, the surgery will still cost AAHS $5,000 to help Izzy, so we need to come together and raise money to help Izzy begin a new, healthy start to life so she can be adopted!

About Izzy
Izzy is an 11-month-old bulldog/boxer mix who needs a forever home with a family that can spend lots of time with her. She already gets along great with other dogs, cats and small animals, and she loves kids—she just doesn’t understand why they fall down so easily when she visits with them sometimes. Izzy is full-grown and weighs about 70 pounds. She knows how to sit, stay and come, but she could still use some puppy training classes. If you need lots of furry love in your life, Izzy is the one for you!
Izzy’s Canine-ality: BUSY-BEE. “I’m a naturally playful, curious and trusting canine. Take me for a big walk every day; give me something to do. After my job’s done, I’ll curl up in front of the fire with you in the evenings.” (Externally motivated)
