Read the Breed: Author Visit, Music, and Art Celebrating The Red and Black Breed

Avid Bookshop is pleased to announce a reading and book signing with author Molly Read Woo on Thursday, July 19, 2012, at 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm. Along with reading from her book, Ms. Woo will share a few songs and discuss photos of Athens and vintage Red & Black issues that will be on display.

On one level, The Red and Black Breed is an easy reading southern murder mystery, set at UGA, and rolling through a tour of Georgia landscapes, as two jaded journalists dust off their reporting skills to find out who killed their friend, a medically challenged mushroom farmer, dabbling in a pharmaceutical business.

On another level, this book is a mini-documentary of Athens, UGA, and the region. The journalists' treks between the rural outskirts of Georgia and the highrises of Atlanta are packed with strange but true political trivia, photos, and music references.

News junkies will be treated to a generous serving of story leads, and anyone who spent a stint at UGA might want to read the book just for the nostalgic rush. The tale is framed with such familiarity with Athens’ history and happenings, the city itself becomes a character.

The Red and Black Breed is much more than just a regional cliff hanger. It's a story of trauma and recovery and how to get back on your feet after being knocked down -  a tale that reflects the challenge on a national level as well as on a personal plane.

This is a fast, fun read for Bulldog fans and is the perfect gift book for a UGA alum!
