Avid Bookshop is pleased to host a special story time with Richard Gnann, author of DREAMING OF THE REDCOAT BAND on Saturday, December 8, 2012, from 1pm to 2pm. As a special treat, we'll also have songs and games with Mr. Richard on guitar or banjo!
DREAMING OF THE REDCOAT BAND is the true story of one child’s Bulldog dream – to march in Sanford Stadium with the University of Georgia Redcoat Band. DREAMING OF THE REDCOAT BAND personifies the Redcoat Band legacy and draws the Redcoat Band even closer to thehearts of the Bulldog Nation. DREAMING OF THE REDCOAT BAND inspires children to follow their dreams and inspires parents to encourage childhood dreams. It is also an opportunity to give back to the band for the thrills of a lifetime in Sanford Stadium, as all profits generated from the book will be donated to the Redcoat Band.
Richard Gnann grew up in Athens and graduated from Clarke Central High School. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music, receiving a B. Music degree in 1977 and a M. of Music degree in 1982. After teaching music in Georgia schools for thirty-three years, Richard retired in 2010. He directs children’s programming at the Winder Library in Winder, Ga, - including Story Time - and writes children’s stories. Richard is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.
Richard now resides in Winder with his wife, Cindy – a veteran middle school math teacher working at Russell Middle School in Winder. Richard and Cindy have two grown sons – one a Redcoat Band Alumnus and the inspiration for the story, Dreaming of the Redcoat Band.
