The Athens, Georgia, Ku Klux Klan of the 1920s: What Can It Tell Us about the Era and America?

Duke University Professor Nancy MacLean will lecture on her research on the Athens Klan to offer a new understanding of the 1920s and to explore enduring patterns of response to economic crisis and social challenge that have haunting resonance for our own time. Her book, Behind the Mask of Chivalry: The Making of the Second Ku Klux Klan, will be available for sale and signing. This lecture will be held in the Auditorium and is co-sponsored by the Athens Historical Society and the Athens-Clarke County Library Heritage Room.
