Former UGA Football Player Charged In 2021 Murder: Police
Former Georgia receiver Ahkil Crumpton was arrested and charged in a 2021 Oconee County gas station slaying.

OCONEE COUNTY, GA — A former University of Georgia football player was arrested and charged with murder in connection with a 2021 killing at a gas station in Oconee County, according to the Oconee County Sheriff's Office.
Former Bulldog receiver Ahkil Crumpton is accused of shooting and killing store clerk Elijah Wood at a RaceTrac convenience store on Highway 441 south of Athens in March 2021.

A search of the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network database by the ATF and FBI found a ballistic match between the weapon used in the Oconee County slaying and another in Philadelphia, authorities said.
Philadelphia police told Oconee County authorities Crumpton was a suspect in their case, and Crumpton's link to the Athens and Oconee County area was discovered by county authorities. The investigation is still active, according to police.

Crumpton played for Georgia in 2017 and 2018 and was a student at the school until 2021.
"For the past year we have seen the pain, agony, and frustrations this murder has brought to Elijah’s family, friends, and to our community," the Oconee County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. "We all know this arrest will not bring Elijah back, but we hope his family, friends, and this community can now begin the healing process."
