Free Third Thursday evening art tour scheduled for April 16

ATHENS, Ga. β The next Third ThursdayΒ β the monthly evening tour of art at seven public galleries β is scheduled for Thursday, April 16 from 6-9 p.m.
Third Thursday was established in 2012 to encourage attendance at Athensβ established art venues through cooperation and co-promotion by the organizing entities.
The April 16 Third Thursday will include the following exhibitions/galleries at these stops:

Lyndon House Arts Center β In celebration of 40 years of art in downtown Athens, the Lyndon House Arts Center will host a rotating exhibition, βForty of Something,β collections from our community. The April installment is 40 hats plus 40 jewels, from the collections of Beverly Bourgeois and Par Ramey. The new Lounge Gallery at the arts center is currently featuring its inaugural exhibition, a solo show by Katherine Dunlap. Dunlap uses drawing media to explore pattern, texture and color in fantastic landscapes. Her charming drawings are filled with imaginative marks, inventive perspective and color that shimmers and delights.
CinΓ© β An exhibition of paintings by local artist Sarah Lowing. Lowing has shown her work at galleries and alternative spaces including a solo show at 1294 Sunset Gallery, and group shows at Tinlark Gallery, Ruth Bachofner Gallery, Post Gallery in Los Angeles and the Green Gallery in Milwaukee.

Hotel Indigo β The opening reception of the Finders exhibition, which investigates works by artists who use found, discarded and re-discovered materials. These are works of assemblage, collage and construction. The GlassCube, through June 2015, features an architectural installation of paintings by Carol John.
The Classic Center β NEW GALLERY OPENING: The Classic Center presents a new spring exhibition, βPeaceable Kingdomβ, picturing an array of animals, those great and small, in the Classic Gallery I. Opening to coincide with 3Thurs festivities, this exhibition feels like exploring a zoological garden, featuring the work of local artists Will Eskridge, Lawson Grice, JenΓ‘ A. Johnson, Susan Pelham and Cheryl Washburn. βFlightβ, the new spring exhibition in Classic Gallery II, examines our feathered and flying friends and features the work of Margaret Agner, Will Eskridge, JenΓ‘ A. Johnson, Maria Mueller and Susan Pelham
Georgia Museum of Art β Master of Fine Arts Degree Candidates Exhibition includes art by 19 graduate students at the Lamar Dodd School of Art. βPierre Daura (1896β1976): Picturing Attachmentsβ examines the many works that Pierre Daura created throughout his career in response to his personal relationships. A companion show, βSmall Truths: Pierre Dauraβs Life and Vision,β utilizes objects from the museumβs collection and the Pierre Daura Center. βChaos and Metamorphosis: The Art of Piero Lerdaβ presents a cross-section of the work of Italian artist Piero Lerda (1927β2007). βTerra Verteβ occupies the sculpture garden and is by Scottish artist Patricia.
ATHICA (Athens Institute for Contemporary Art) β βTEASE: Hair as Muse + Material,β ATHICAβs first group exhibit of the year, explores the significance of hair in art, fashion, ritual, sexuality, religion and culture, represented in a variety of media.
Lamar Dodd School of Art β Lamar Dodd School of Art will be closed for the April Third Thursday.
The Third Thursday shuttle, which is sponsored by The Classic Center Cultural Foundation, will circulate through all of the art venues every 30 minutes, beginning at the Lyndon House at 6 p.m. Free parking is available at the Lyndon House Arts Center, the Georgia Museum of Art and ATHICA.
All exhibits are free and open to the public during Third Thursday.
