Funeral Arrangements For Athens-Clarke County Officer Released

ATHENS, GA — The funeral arrangements for the late Athens-Clarke County senior police officer Rebecca "Becky" Croxton were announced Friday.

Police announced the news of Croxton's death Tuesday but did not reveal how she died. She was with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department for 26 years.

"As we announce the funeral service arrangements for SPO Rebecca 'Becky' Croxton, I want to express our sincere gratitude for all of the support shown to SPO Croxton’s family and ACCPD during this difficult time," Athens-Clarke County Police Chief Jerry Saulters said in a news release posted to Facebook.

The funeral for Croxton will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 22, at Cornerstone Church, 4680 Lexington Road. Police said the ceremony will be contained within the church premises.

There will be no visitation, procession or graveside service.

"All family, friends and colleagues are invited to attend the service as we honor and remember her life and service to the community," police said in the release.

Anyone else who wishes to pay their respects are asked to line the entrance to Cornerstone Church at 12:30 p.m. as the family is escorted to the service. Those wishing to line the roadway are asked to park at Southeast Clarke Park.

Croxton served the local police department with "dedication and professionalism," Saulters said in a release earlier this week.

"SPO Croxton had a unique ability to connect with people and always displayed compassion, empathy and kind-heartedness," he said.

Croxton served in patrol operations, criminal investigations, forensics and most recently the administration, he said.

"During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers go out to SPO Croxton's family, friends, colleagues and loved ones," Saulters said. "We recognize the pain and sorrow they are experiencing, and we extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to them. We will continue to support them through this loss and offer any assistance they may need."
