Garrison Keillor Coming to Athens

His one-man show is sold out, but there is a waiting list.

Sue Scott, Tim Russell and the other regulars of the iconic radio show "Prarie Home Companion" won't be joining Garrison Keillor on stage Monday night. But the townspeople of Lake Wobegon will, as Keillor talks about the mythical town "that time forgot and the decades can't improve."

The veteran radio man will tell stories for 90 minutes at Center, said Bobby Tyler, marketing and media relations director for the center. There won't be an intermission, but one can imagine there will be a pitcher of water.

Keillor's appearance is a "celebrity evening," in which the Performing Arts Center joins with the to bring in big name performers. Past performers include Yo Yo Ma, Tony Bennett, Lyle Lovett, Doc Severinsen and the Chieftains. The Performing Arts Center gets tickets to sell and so does the Classic Center

Tickets for Garrison Keillor sold out quickly in the UGA venue. The Classic Center was a little slower, Tyler said, but they eventually sold all their tickets as well.

There is, however, a waiting list. You can give your name to the box office and hope someone cancels or has a conflict. If you miss this show, you won't have a chance to see it at another time, Tyler said. Monday's performance marks the end of Keillor's one-man show.
