Georgia Theatre To Reopen Aug.1
With the grand reopening a little more than a week away, construction is still on going to rebuild the historic theatre that was destroyed by a fire in June 2009.
A visit to the site of the historic Georgia Theatre Wednesday showed that work to rebuild the venue is still underway.
With less than two weeks left until the grand reopening, the balcony is mostly finished and there is sound equipment in place, but there were still some wires hanging and carpentry work going on.
An article in the Athens Banner-Herald last month quoted Owner Wil Greene as saying, "We'd love to have a few soft openings, but that all depends on construction. But come hell or high water, we'll be open Aug. 1."
