Hospitalized UGA Crash Survivor Gets Her Degree

Agnes Kim, 21, was awarded a marketing degree during UGA commencement ceremonies.

ATHENS, GA -- Agnes Kim, the driver and lone survivor in a vehicle involved in a crash that killed four University of Georgia students last month, got her degree over the weekend.

Agnes Kim, who is in critical condition and being treated for brain injuries at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, was awarded her marketing degree Friday night at commencement ceremonies at Sanford Stadium.

"The strength and compassion of the UGA community were evident recently when we came together to support one another after the devastating car accident that took the lives of four students and critically injured another -- Agnes Kim, who is graduating this evening in absentia as she remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries," UGA President Jere Morehead said at the ceremony, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

UGA students Kayla Canedo, 19, of Alpharetta, Brittany Feldman, 20, of Alpharetta, Christina Semeria, 19, of Milton and Halle Scott, 19, of Dunwoody, all died in the April 27 crash.

The driver of the other vehicle, Abby Short, 27, of Demorest, also was hospitalized.

Kim has remained hospitalized in critical condition since the wreck.

The crash happened at about 8:55 p.m. on Highway 15, just outside of Watkinsville, according to the Georgia State Patrol

The patrol said Kim's Camry traveled into the oncoming lane and was hit in the side by Short's Chevrolet Cobalt.

The state patrol has said that neither drugs or alcohol nor speed appears to have been a factor in the wreck.The patrol continues to investigate what caused the crash and has said it will have no more updates until what it has called a complicated investigation is complete.
