"Journey through the Stars for Families" at Sandy Creek Nature Center


The Athens-Clarke County Department of Leisure Services will present will Journey through the Stars for Families this winter at the planetarium at Sandy Creek Nature Center.

Participants will explore the great beyond and explore a different aspect astronomy for each class.

The first program, β€œFull Moon” is set for Saturday, December 6. Attendees will discover why Native American tribes called a full moon a cold moon.

The next program, on Saturday, January 31, has the theme β€œAnimal Super Bowl.” Participants are encouraged to dress in their football best as everyone roots for their favorite team and learn about animal stories of the sky.

β€œDay of the Dawn” is the theme for the session scheduled for Saturday, February 28. NASA’s spacecraft, called Dawn, is going to encounter the dwarf planet Ceres. Participants will learn about dwarf planets and space crafts on this day of discovery.

Each program takes place from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. The program fee for each session is $7 for an Athens-Clarke County family and $10 for a non-Athens-Clarke County family. Pre-registration is required one day prior to the program by calling 706-613-3615.
