Kids Hide Keys, Stop Mom From Driving Drunk

The children told their mother they didn't want her to get in trouble.

Athens Clarke County Police officers on Monday arrested a Madison County woman whose children had taken her car keys to stop her from driving while under the influence. Her blood alcohol level was .181 and .169 in separate tests.

According to a story in the Athen Banner Herald, Tammy Terrell Evans, 35, had pulled into the Red Lobster to pick up some food and had hit the curb, her two children told police. She pulled into the parking lot at nearby Walgreen's after her children told her a back tire was flat.

There, they took the car keys from her, convinced she was inebriated, the story says. Someone called the police because of the fight that ensued in the Walgreen's parking lot, but by the time the police arrived, the argument had moved to Taco Bell.

Besides DUI, Evans was charged with disorderly conduct, public intoxication, DUI/endangering a child, improper driving and a learner’s permit infraction.
