Man Allegedly Attacks Roommate with Claw Hammer

Around 12 noon on March 24 officers responded to an assault at a Scandia Circle residence, to a Tivoli apartment shared by two roommates. Contact was made with a man, with tried blood on his head and upper body, according to the Athens Banner Herald, who told police that he and his roommate had been arguing. The roommate, Dan Dewitt Jones, had stuck the victim in the head several times in the head with a claw hammer. EMS responded and checked the bleeding hammered man, but he refused transport to the hospital. Jones, 46, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault.
An officer met with a man from Hunters Pointe Drive, at St. Mary’s Hospital. The man said he had been standing in a parking lot at Bethel Homes around midnight on March 24 when an unknown person came up behind him and struck him in the head with an unknown object. His identification and cell phone were stolen. The value was $210.
A Carriage Court residence was burglarized between 1am on March 23 and 10pm on March 24. Four thousand dollars was stolen.
A woman from North Ave reported that her 1997 Acura CL was stolen from the 600 block of West Broad St between 8pm and 9pm on March 23. The vehicle is black, with Georgia tag BQV6709, and is valued at $3,000. The report was made on March 24.
