Man Arrested for Public Intoxication After Beating on Van, Scooter, Caledonia Lounge Door

An Athens man was arrested for public intoxication Thursday after he was kicked out of Caledonia Lounge and damaged a man's scooter, according to an Athens-Clarke County Police report. 

Police responded to an emergency call at about 2 a.m. after someone reported that a person downtown had damaged a man's scooter. The caller told police  the man was kicked out of Caledonia Lounge after he refused to pay the cover charge and started yelling obscenities. He then remained by the back door, demanding to be let in.

The caller, who is a bouncer for Caledonia Lounge, told police that he followed the man after he left the club to talk to him about his behavior. He was told by a traveling musician that the man began beating on the musician's van after he left the club. After the musician yelled at him to stop, he knocked over a red scooter, damaging the front and rear fender.

The man then began beating on the door of the Caledonia Lounge again, according to the report.

Police arrested Caleb Pope, 22, and charged him with disorderly conduct and public intoxication. He was taken to Clarke County Jail.
