Man Drives Away Intruders with a Baseball Bat in Athens, Ga.

Around 6:40pm on December 18, the four occupants of a Chateau Terrace apartment heard a knock at the door. Two were from Athens, one from Homer and one from Commerce. One looked out and saw four men but did not open the door.

The suspects then kicked open the door.

As the suspects entered the residence, one of the residents struck a suspect with a bat and all the suspects fled. As other officers responded, one had contact with Dazmon D.G. Steeple.

After an investigation, it was determined he was involved in the incident and he was arrested. Steeple, 20, Timberlane Street, Homer, was charged with Armed Robbery, Burglary, and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. The investigation continues.

Around 2am on December 18 officers responded to a burglary that had just occurred at a Westchester Circle residence. A responding officer saw a man walking on Westchester Cir and got out to be with him. As the officer talked him, the man kept putting his hands in his pockets, even after the officer asked him to stop. The officer asked for and was granted permission to search the subject.

The search revealed a ski mask, gloves, a small bag of stones, cigarettes, lighter, and a pocket knife. During this time another officer met with the victim, who said that while she had been standing at the top of the stairs, she saw a man known to her at the bottom of the stairs. She called out to him and he left the residence. After an investigation, Andrew Rawsaw Jackson, Jr., 32, Lake Place, was arrested and charged with Burglary and Possession of Burglary Tools.

A Church Street residence for four people was burglarized between 6:30pm on December 15 and 9am on December 17. A TV, video console, and clothing with a total value of $3,200 were stolen.

Between 6:30pm on December 15 and 9am on December 17 a North Church Street residence of four people was burglarized. TVs, a comforter, and a watch were stolen. The total value was $1,150.

A woman from Hartwell reported that a Hwy 29 North storage unit burglarized between midnight and 1:30pm on December 17. Miscellaneous household goods and documents were stolen. The total value was $8,571.

A laptop and jewelry were stolen from a Chesterton Drive residence in a burglary that occurred between 9am and 2:30pm on December 17. The total value was $1,330.

A man reported that his Highland Park Drive residence was burglarized between 6pm on December 16 and 6pm on December 17. Hand guns and a lap top with a total value of $2,500 were stolen.
