Man's Carpet Possibly Stolen by Hat Admiring Suspect

Carpet was reported stolen from a Colbert man's Athens residence Thursday, according to an Athens Clarke County Police report.

Police responded to the 7000 block of Smokey Road on Thursday afternoon and noticed the carpet had been stripped from the house and the front . The door was open. He met with the owner, who was trying to sell the house. The owner said he believed a friend of his had moved the carpet, along with his television and some hats, to a store shed. 

When police checked the storage shed, the carpet and other items were missing. 

The man told police that he believed a neighbor who lived behind the house may have taken his things, because he had previously admired his hats. The investigation is ongoing.
