Man Uses His Arm Cast to Beat Police Officer

The incident report says when the officer arrived the man's speech was slurred.

An Athens Clarke County Police officer ended up fighting around 10:40pm on Thursday with a seemingly inebriated man who wouldn't leave a downtown bar.

Chadwick Mark Allen, 25, of Hull, refused to leave a bar, so the officer came to escort him from the place, according to a story in the Athens Banner Herald. Allen began cursing the officer on the bar's outdoor patio. He assumed "a fighting stance," the story says, and the officer brought out his baton.

The officer put a handcuff on Allen's good arm as he was walking away, and Allen tried to hit him in the chest with his cast, the story says. A fight ensued, during which Allen hit the officer above the eye with his cast.

After the officer subdued Allen, the man began beating his head on the pavement, the story says, so the officer lay on Allen until help arrived. He continued to resist and fight in the police car and the hospital as well, the story says. After his injuries were treated, he was taken to the jail.

There, the story says, Allen was booked on charges of simple assault on a police officer, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, making terroristic threats, disorderly conduct and criminal trespass.
