Men With Sticks Attack Students On Edge of Downtown Athens, Ga.

A University of Georgia student reported that he and his roomate were attacked by men with sticks, possibly 2 x 4's, while they were walking home downtown Thursday morning, around 2:30, according to an Athens Clarke County Police report.

Police responded to St. Mary's Hospital after a battery was reported. The student told officers that he and his roommate were walking north on College Avenue and were near the trestle bridge when three men with sticks attacked them, attempting to rob them. One got hit in the head by, and ran from, an assailant, then returned when he saw his friend on the ground. The two other assailants ran when he returned.

No description of the men was available. The investigation is ongoing.
