My Mayan Connection - Everyone Wants One!

It's all the rage.

Mayan this, Mayan, that. We even had a story last year of Mayan ruins found in north Georgia, but it proved to be a hoax.

Until a little over a year ago I really had not thought much about the Mayan culture or their doomsday calendar. That is, before I met a woman from Indiana.

During one of my Healing Touch trainings, I was introduced to something everyone else in the class had already experienced. They had had their energy drawn.  

I know, very esoteric sounding. But as part of our lengthy certification process we were required to try a variety of alternative therapies so we would be familiar with what all is out there. I made an appointment with a woman who happens to live in the same little town (Greenfield, IN) as my mother. After Shirley drew my picture she interpreted what she had drawn. I was told I should visit a Mayan site so I could remember a previous life.

That previous life was that of a Mayan healer. I would supposedly remember some technique that I used and could use again to help others. I know there are lots of beliefs out there, but I don't really believe I was reincarnated. Hebrews 9:27 tells me that people are destined to die once. However, I must admit I was intrigued enough to google ancient Mayan cities. My husband and I decided if we ever went to visit any we would choose Guatemala.

Fast forward to last month when I met a woman who was planning a yoga retreat to Guatemala. I teach yoga; I love yoga, but, my first question was "Are you going somewhere where there are remnants of Mayan culture?" She said, "No, but it's a beautiful location nestled next to Lake Atitlan."  

I couldn't decide until my husband sent me a link to a story about an Athenian film writer/producer who recently filmed a documentary called Mayan Blue.  It seems that Standoff Studios recently finished work on a film that features some underwater cinematography of a site the Guatemalans have tried to keep secret for some time. You guessed it. The site is underneath Lake Atitlan. So, congratulations, by virtue of living in Athens you have a Mayan Connection.

My trip begins on January 27th. I'll be blogging my daily quests for health and fitness amongst the submerged city of Samabaj. If perchance I remember anything that could help any of y'all, I'll let you know. I'm sure whatever I experience I'll cherish the journey.
