New Head Football Coach Named for Cedar Shoals

Chris Davis will begin as a physical education teacher at next school year. The Clarke County Board of Education just approved his appointment to the position and Cedar Shoals Principal Tony Price has now offered him the position of head football coach.

“Coach Davis not only has an impressive track record as a coach, but he is first and foremost an educator,” says Price. “He has a tremendous amount of experience and has coached a number of student-athletes at the college and professional levels. He wants to help build strong character in young men, and I look forward to having him lead our football team.”

Teams for which Davis was an assistant coach have won three state, and two national, championships. In that capacity, Davis has coached in six Florida high school state championship games.

At his last job, in Florida, Davis was head football coach at Palm Beach Gardens Community High School, beginning in 2009. During his first year at that school, the number of varsity players with a 3.0 or higher GPA increased from seven to 31. The team also improved to an overall winning record during his tenure. He was recently named the 2011 Palm Beach County 8A Coach of the Year.  

Earlier, in Lakeland, Florida, he also worked a teacher and assistant football coach at Lakeland High School.  Also in Lakeland, he worked as a performance coach at Velocity Sports Performance. Davis was, in addition, head weightlifting coach, an assistant football coach and teacher at other high schools.

“We are excited Coach Davis has chosen to join the Jaguar family, says Cedar Shoals’ athletic director, Roger Edmonds. “We look forward to him having an opportunity to turn our football program in the right direction.”

Davis earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of Central Florida and received his master’s in sports administration from Mississippi State University.

He emphasizes on community outreach and has affiliations with Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was also the founder of S.T.A.M.P., a student-athlete mentoring program (http://stampmentoring.org/Home_Page.html).

“In meeting Coach Davis and knowing his record as both a teacher and a coach, I have been impressed with his commitment and dedication to education,” says Clarke County School District Superintendent Philip D. Lanoue. “I believe his credentials and philosophy will lead the Jaguars to high levels of achievement.”
