Athens Clarke County officials have cancelled the Star Spangled Classic at Bishop Park, Athens’ annual Independence Day celebration, because of the continual rainy weather.
The extended weather forecast--with an almost 100 percent chance of rain--means the event can't be delayed until July 5th, the contracted rain date.
“We are disappointed that we won’t be holding the event this year, but we look forward to celebrating next year,” stated Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department Director Pam Reidy.
