Arts & Entertainment

North Georgia Folk Festival

The 27th edition of this popular event filled a perfect fall day with good music, art, crafts, food, and fun.

Once again, the Athens Folk Music and Dance Society presented a thoroughly entertaining, all-day program at Sandy Creek Park this past weekend, including an eclectic variety of live musical performances, workshops, art and craft demonstrators and vendors, childrens' activities, and good food.

The folk music umbrella encompassed styles ranging from traditional mountain music and bluegrass to world music to klezmer to blues. Instruction was offered in story-telling, old-time fiddle and banjo, and vocal harmonizing, and art and craft demonstrations included quilting, basket- and broom-making, spinning and weaving, and blacksmithing. And vendors brought their pottery, jewelry, knitted items, herbal soaps, wildflowers, and other art and craft items.

The images in this photo gallery capture some of the flavor of the day's events.
