Man convicted to 35 years for murder of 20-year-old at Athens apartments (wuga.org) — An 18-year-old has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for the 2024 killing of 20-year-old Cameron Manago during an armed robbery at Rolling Ridge Apartments in Athens. State prosecutors and Athens-Clarke County police worked with federal investigators on the gang-related case, and one additional defendant is still being prosecuted.

Georgia proposal would move probate judges from appointments to ballot (roughdraftatlanta.com) — Athens residents will see a proposed constitutional amendment on November's ballot that would require all Georgia probate judges to be elected in nonpartisan races instead of appointed. The mayors of Athens and many other cities, along with leaders from both parties, back the change as a way to emphasize fairness and reduce partisan pressure on judges handling sensitive family matters.
