Person Injured In Athens Apartment Fire

An alarm alerted authorities Tuesday to a fire at a Highland Park Drive apartment building.

ATHENS, GA — A person suffered minor burns early Tuesday after an accidental fire at a Highland Park Drive three-story apartment building, Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services said.

Firefighters responded around 2:30 a.m. after an alarm notified first responders. Flames were seen coming from the second and third floors behind the building, fire officials said.

Crews began to extinguish the fire, and fire officials said most of the structure remained intact.

It is unknown how many total residents were affected by the fire; however, a person had minor burns, and the American Red Cross is assisting those who were displaced as a result of the fire.

The cause and origin of the fire are being investigated.
