Police: Man Arrested, Charged With Rape of Juvenile

ARREST

Yesterday, Athens-Clarke County Police officers along with State Probation, Clarke County Sheriff’s deputies, and members of the U.S. Marshal Service arrested Jefferey Maurice Jones, 33, in connection with a sexual assault of a juvenile. The investigation revealed that Jones lured the victim to an eastside residence where the assault took place. Following the assault, Jones, who is currently on probation, removed his ankle monitor and left the area. ACCPD investigators assigned to the Family Protection Center secured arrest warrants for Jones on Monday night for Rape, Aggravated Sodomy, and a Probation Violation.

BURGLARY

Southern Brewing Company, 231 Collins Industrial Blvd, was burglarized between 3:30 p.m. January 19 and 9 a.m. January 20. A drill, saw, grinder, sanders, hammer drill, welding tools, tool bag containing hand tools, a boom box, and rolls of copper wire were stolen. The total value was $2,050.

A Martin Luther King, Jr., Pkwy residence was burglarized between 10:30 p.m. January 20 and 2:30 a.m. January 21. Nothing is known missing.

ENTERING AUTO

A vehicle was entered between 8 p.m. January 17 and 6 p.m. January 19 while parked at a North Ave residence. A range finder and golf bag with clubs, total value $1,700, were stolen. This was reported January 20.

THEFT BY TAKING

A Watkinsville man said he parked his 1993 Lexus ES300 at an Atlanta Hwy business around 1820 January 20. When he returned about 20 minutes later, the vehicle had been stolen. It is green, with Georgia tag PXL1175, and valued at $2,000.

A 2007 Honda CRF230 was stolen from a Milledge Ter residence between 11 a.m. January 11 and 5:30 p.m. January 15. The dirt bike is black and red and valued at $1,400. A black helmet with stickers and valued at $100 was also stolen. The theft was reported January 20.

An Athens woman said she was letting her 1996 Toyota Camry warm up in front of her Dearing St residence. Between 6:55 a.m. and 7:10 a.m. January 21, it was stolen. It is tan, with Georgia tag BUI2471, and valued at $5,000.
