Police Reports: Motorcycle Accident, Scooter Taken, $2K Handbag Stolen

ACCIDENT

Around 1:45 p.m. September 7, Roy Guinn of Nicholson, riding a 1991 Harley Davidson, was northbound on Mitchell Br Rd. Ethan Merritt Makin of Christa Lane, driving a 2001 Pontiac Bonneville, attempted to enter Mitchell Br Rd from the Publix parking lot. He crossed the southbound lane and as he entered the northbound lane, he pulled in the path of the Guinn vehicle. Makin said he was unable to see the Guinn vehicle due to traffic stopped in the southbound lane. Impact caused Guinn and his passenger, Sheila Faye Guinn, also of Nicholson, to be ejected. Sheila Guinn was transported to Athens Regional Medical Center. Makin was cited for Failure to Yield Entering a Roadway.

BURGLARY

Officers responded to a burglary at Top Dog Scooters, 730 Baxter St. Upon arrival, they had contact with University of Georgia officers who were out with a suspicious person. A check of the business revealed a window had been shattered and three scooters moved outside. The owner arrived and discovered a 2014 Taotao scooter had been stolen. The scooter is black and valued at $1,026. A helmet valued at $90 was also stolen. The report did not indicate whether or not the suspicious person was involved.

A Gaines School Road storage unit was burglarized between 1 p.m. September 3 and 8:10 p.m. September 7. A cedar chest and turntable with a total value of $170 were stolen.

A Michelle Dr residence was burglarized between 4:30 p.m. September 7 and 6:15 a.m. September 8. A video game system, laptop, and cell phones were stolen. The total value was $1,190.

THEFT BY TAKING

A handbag valued at $2,000 stolen from a Ruth Street residence between 9 a.m. August 23 and 9 a.m. September 7. She said a number of people had been in the residence during this time period.
